Projects
GameCourse: Developing a Personalized Gaming Experience for an Engineering Course – Principal Investigator
– Context: The idea of “one size fits all” education usually may result in a lack of motivation and engagement in learning.
– Goal: Research personalization individually relevant gaming mechanisms to improve participation and learning in higher education.
VisBig: Visualizing Real-Time Streaming Big-Data – Co-Principal Investigator
– Context: Data is currently generated in real-time streams in a variety of contexts. Such data present a set of challenges that must be overcome in order to achieve a meaningful visualization.
– Goal: Study visualization mechanisms that successfully highlight change and time-related patterns in streaming big-data.
Educare: Visualizing Educational Datamining Information (2014-2015) – Researcher
– Context: Nowadays we generate large amounts of information while socially interacting through computers. However, we may not have an idea of our own interaction patterns.
– Goal: Create a visualization to highlight user patterns regarding social personal information.
Tecton3D – Digital Mockup: Touching the 3rd Dimension – (2013) Junior Researcher
– Context: Current Mockups rely on software which is often difficult to use and does not support a grasp on the “look&feel” of the project being created..
– Goal: Study mechanisms to create and navigate digital mockups using hand and body gestures.
Open Energy Sim (GlobalLab – National Institute of Informatics, Tokyo, Japan) – (2011) Junior Researcher
– Context: With the great number of automobiles, pollution has become a real problem. If drivers adopt a more ecologic driving, this problem may suffer a drastic decrease.
– Goal: Create a driving simulator for educating people on how to drive more ecologically. My role on this project was to procedurally generate a partial model of Tokyo city using CityEngine.
Crush: Clip-art Retrieval Using Sketches – (2010) Junior Researcher
– Context: Nowadays, there are large collections of clip-arts. Such drawings tend to be archived and accessed by categories. However, finding a particular drawing among hundreds of thousands is not an easy task.
– Goal: Develop a solution for clip-art retrieval from large collections using sketches as queries.
